School Time Again?

 It’s been...what? Six months? Since schools have been closed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, which is gradually fading out even though life in general has been drastically altered.

Here in Nigeria, schools have gradually begun to reopen beginning with the final examination classes in both the grade and high schools. Nevertheless, there are kids still at home awaiting their own turn to return to school. 

And so therefore, there is still little time and room for the kids to keep reading till they resume classes fully. We shouldn’t also forget that September has been declared Literacy month by The United Nations Education Scientific &Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

Three Keys By Kelly Yang for your tweens and teens.

Skunk And Badger By Amy Timberlake & illustrated by Jon Klassen for Toddlers. 

Parents and guardians should please ensure they spend some quality time to read to their toddlers. The older kids can read by themselves but should be supervised.

  Wow....today makes it exactly 365 days since I posted any content on this blog! And I must sincerely apologize for not keeping up with this online experience for kids which I so  desperately wanted to pursue to help reduce the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the reading patterns and culture of our children. Nevertheless, with schools and education almost back to normal as before the pandemic, I am glad that children especially here in Nigeria and all around the world  are fully back into the learning system again. In a few days time, schools will be opening for the 2021/2022 academic session here and I am aware that schools in the UK just opened for the new session on September 6. Also in the US and other parts of the world, schools are reopening after the summer holidays. Are We Reading To Our Kids?

For the #Children’s Day celebrations, I recommended two books titled: The One And Only Bob by Katherine Applegate and Camp Murderface by Josh Berk & Saundra Mitchell, and these books are available on goodreads.com. I believe we had a great time reading to our kids and allowing our middle graders and teenagers engage in leisure but wholesome reading to help the continued process of mental and cognitive growth and development. Par adventure, we haven’t introduced our kids to this reading challenge yet, it’s never too late. This online book club for kids has been designed to allow you and your kids read at your pace and convenience. It's Reading Time!

The purpose of the book club for kids is to ensure that the reading culture is cultivated and imbibed  in kids and teens of all ages. This will help to stimulate their thought processes and also their mental, intellectual, and creative abilities. Also expanding their mental, creative and cultural caacity by the genre of books they will be reading. A particular book is picked for the week. Children who are members of the book club will read and meet to discuss  the story while they learn a thing or two from the book. The approach is to keep the kids actively engaged during this #Covid-19 virus pandemic lockdown and also beyond this season. So watch out for the #books we would be suggesting for reading for your kids. If they are toddlers you will have to read to them as parents or guardians.
